Cerebral Palsy The Neurodevelopmental program has done a lot for me. In what ways I am now going to explain. When I was young the doctors said I would not walk, I would not talk, and that sort of thing. So Mom turned to ND for help. Now I can walk, talk, and do all the sort of things the doctors said I would not be able to do. My school has improved over the past few years as a result of the program, and is continuing to improve. I enjoy learning about a great many things; math, science, technology, and just all about the stuff that is going on around me. I like learning from older people when it comes to history. I feel that I only learn very much on a ND home-school basis, and I barely learn anything at regular school. For example, if it is hard for you to write down assignments it is hard for you to be part of a regular school. With the ND type of school they do it the way that makes it fun for the child, in a way the child can do it. The reason I like going into school is to see friends. I like collecting firewood, walking and all that stuff, because it is fun and gives me exercise, some of the things I didn't have before starting on program. Now I can climb mountains, go to Scouts & I just managed to tie my shoe laces. I have wanted to do that ever since I was a little guy. The reason I could not tie my shoes is because I could not see very well, so I could not see what my laces were doing, and I could not feel very well so I could not feel what my hands were doing, I could not work my hands very well. The ND program has given me the ability to do all these things; feel, see, use my hands. I feel that the ND program is good. Spending time doing it is worth it
because if you don't do it to disabled kids they just won't be able to play and
do all the things you want them to do when they grow up. We once decided not to
do the ND program for a year, but after a few months I got so fed up with not
being able to do things that I asked Mom if we could go back to doing ND therapy
and school. I enjoy ND school very much. I wish that all children in the
world who have disabilities could have ND program because it has made my life
richer and more fulfilling. (Shaun was diagnosed with severe spastic quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy,
cortical blindness, aphasia, and severe mental retardation. Shaun is presently
considered to have only mild spastic diplegic Cerebral Palsy, sees extremely
well, reads and comprehends at a High School graduate/first year university
level, enjoys studying neurology, history, has won numerous trophies and
scholarships in public speaking and was assessed at age eight to be in the top
99.9999 percentile for intellectual function. [age 24 yr. level at chronological
are of 8.] At age 13 Shaun became the youngest student to enroll in Athabasca
University and has completed his first course with a mark of 72%.
